Year 5/6 have begun a new maths topic today, looking at angles. They have identified right angles, acute, obtuse and reflex. A few of the children have looked round the school and found many types of angles.
EYFS - Coats
Tuesday, January 22nd, 2013
We play and learn outside in all weathers (see our previous post!) so we need our coats every day. If possible coats should be waterproof with a hood.
We are encouraging every child to put their coat on and do it up by themselves. If they find this tricky, try adding a keyring to their zip toggle, it helps with pulling it up.
Thank you.

EYFS - Messy Kitchen.
Tuesday, January 22nd, 2013
- Lots of different dishes.
- Mixing up our ingredients.
- Carrot cake into the oven.
- Being busy chefs.
- Serving in the cafe.
- Eating in the cafe.
This week we started to read and share ‘The Toy’s Party’.
In the story Kipper makes a cake with lots of funny ingredients and makes a big mess of the kitchen. His mum is very cross!
We role played being Kipper outside in our messy kitchen. We had great fun mixing lots of different imaginary ingredients, pretending to bake carrot cakes, porridge and soup. We worked together to build an oven to cook our food in and served up dishes at the pretend cafe.

Year 3/4 Habitats
Tuesday, January 22nd, 2013
We are a few weeks into our habitats topic. Many of us have now chosen our own habitat and are conducting research for our non chronological poster.
Our class display reflects our learning so far.
Ask your child what habitat they have chosen and what they have found out so far.
EYFS - The end of our tiger topic.
Monday, January 21st, 2013
We have come to the end of our Tiger Who Came to Tea topic. Today we reviewed our learning during the topic. We discussed what we have got better at and what our favorite learning experience was.
Some of our favorite activities were the tiger hunt in the outside area, creating our clay tigers, making our own tiger information books and color mixing paint to make tiger stripes.
We really enjoyed the story ‘The Tiger Who Came To Tea’, and thought the tiger was very cheeky to eat all the food in Sophie’s house. Our writing skills improved writing a list of all the food the tiger ate. We liked it when Sophie and her parents went to the cafe for sausages, chips and ice-cream. We had fun role playing this in our cafe.
Tomorrow we will read a new focus book, ‘The Toy’s Party”.

EYFS - Growing mushrooms.
Monday, January 21st, 2013
As it is so cold outside at the moment we are using our gardening skills inside instead. Mr Vickery helped us to sow mushrooms in special boxes. We are going to take care of them by misting them with water and observe them growing.
It will be fab to use the mushrooms we grow to cook with. Can you share any mushroom recipes with us?

Y1/2 Drama
Monday, January 21st, 2013
We have been imagining that we were at the Opening day for when the Rocket made its first journey from Liverpool to Manchester. We had to think of our character and act in role then explain how we were feeling and what we had seen.
We then wrote in speech bubbles what we were saying. Everyone worked really hard and used some great describing words.
Green Team and Wildlife Champions - The New Wildlife Garden!
Monday, January 21st, 2013
Today our Green Team and Wildlife Champions got together to start work on Montgomery’s new wildlife garden. Our very first task was to build a bug hotel. The Wildlife Champions had learnt how to construct a bug hotel when they attended the recent Devon Wildlife Conference. They quickly got to work showing other Green Team members how to stuff plastic bottles with rolled cardboard, to be placed inside stacked wooden pallets.
Over the next few weeks we will continue to pack the pallets with filled bottles. This will encourage bugs into the garden, giving them a safe habitat to thrive in.
We also had a look around the garden, spotting the bird and bat boxes. It got us thinking about how we could encourage birds and bats into the garden. Some further research is definitely needed.
It is very exciting planning for our garden projects. The Wildlife Champions and Green Team will keep everyone updated via the blog.
WANTED PLEASE – WOODEN PALLETS
Can you donate unwanted wooden pallets for our garden. We would love to build more bug hotels, and the pallets are very useful for a range of projects.
If you can help, please contact Sarah Vickery (Foundation Stage) or Robert Vickery (Year5/6).

Year 3/4 Big Write
Monday, January 21st, 2013
Today in Big Write we were writing instructions.
We watched a video called ‘The Shirt Machine’ where an inventor created shirts that gave the wearer special powers. We each designed a shirt ourselves and then wrote instructions about how to use it.
