Over the last few days we have been listening to extracts of ‘The Twits’ by Roald Dahl- more specifically the character profiles of Mr Twit and Mrs Twit. Today we began to write our own profile about Mr Twit. We have really enjoyed this as he’s such an unusual character.
Ask your child, why he is so unusual.

In English we have been finding out about the famous author Roald Dahl.
We began by writing down what we wanted to now about Roald Dahl (in the form of a question). Today we tried to answer our questions using the ipads and fact sheets.
Ask you your child what they have found out about Roald Dahl.

Today, we wrote the instructions for how to make scones. We were shown how to use numbered points, time connectives (next, then, finally) and bossy verbs (e.g. put, cut, mix).

Today, during our Big Write session we wrote about our half term holiday. We talked as a whole class about what we needed to include to write a brilliant piece e.g. meaningful sentences, full stops and capital letters, good handwriting, adjectives (describing words), adverbs (action words e.g. quickly), connectives ( and, but, so, then) etc

Following our riddle focus this week we have been inundated with children writing riddles at home. Well done to all that had a go.

We have been looking at riddles.We have focused on solving them, what features they contain and creating our own verbally.
Next week we will be putting all this into writing our very own riddle!

During our English sessions we have been looking at instructions. We have been following instructions for various activities and looking at how the instructions are presented ( ‘bossy’ verbs, numbering, pictures etc). We will then move onto writing instructions for the scones we have made over the past few weeks.

During our Friday English sessions we have been practising our handwriting. We have special handwriting books so that our letters sit correctly above and below the line. Today, some of us continued to practise our letter formation and those that were ready moved onto beginning to join.

We had a great time learning literacy skills alongside our parents! We made books together about our families and we are going to share these with our friends in KS1 assembly.
