Y1/2 Illusions
Friday, June 7th, 2013
Mrs Marshall ‘s and Mrs Simm’s class have been exploring optical illusions. The children have lead their own learning following what they are finding interesting.
Some of the children have been looking at photos using different perspective to make everyone look smaller. This film shows how the children have taken the learning on and developed it into a story.

Y1/2 Learning about Farms
Sunday, April 28th, 2013
We have all had a busy start to the new term with our topic about Farms. We have been finding out all about the different building farms have and what they are used for. The children have represented what they have found out by building models of farms. It has generated some excellent discussions about life on the farm such as ‘what is the difference between straw and hay?’
Y1/2 create and explore learning

What an inspiration Frank Sutcliffe has been!
We looked at his photographs from Victorian times then dressed as characters in the role play area. We used these images to draw and paint using black and white tones. We are delighted with the results!

Y1/2 More measuring!
Tuesday, February 26th, 2013
Today we continued our learning about measure. We used the rice and water to measure how much different containers could hold.
We were also looking out how to measure in standard measures using scales. Some of us measured using 10grams weights. We also looked at how we read the scale when measuring weight.
Y1/2 Measure Workshop
Monday, February 25th, 2013
We have started learning about measuring with a busy time weighing objects using scales and playing Tiddly Winks. First we had to think about all the words we use to describe all the different types of measuring we can do.
Some of us used balancing scale to weigh different objects. We had to count how many cubes it took to balance the scales. We had to estimate first and then found out which object was heaviest.
We had a Tiddly Wink challenge and had to measure how far our counters moved. Not all of the numbers were on the measuring sheet so we had to work out what the other numbers might be. It was a great way to use our knowledge of the number system counting in 1s 5s.

We have been reciting poems in Explore today. We recorded ourselves on the iPads so we could play it back and listen to ourselves. We worked hard to use expression and rhythm in our voices.

Y1/2 Venn Diagrams
Wednesday, February 6th, 2013
To help us learn and talk more about shapes and their properties we used Venn diagrams to sort the shapes. We had to think of our own criteria and then sort them in to the correct circle.
