Year 5

Space!

Today we celebrated some of the amazing homework Year 5 had completed on the topic of space. Their task was to research one of the planets in our solar system and create a fact file about it. The children all chose different ways to share the information they had learnt and made some fantastic things!

REMINDER FOR NEXT WEEK: Science homework due on Friday 5th September

Year 5 Writing

Over the last few weeks year 5 have been looking at the story of the girl and the fox. In this story a 9 year old girl called Iona is faced with a challenge, does she kill the fox who murdered her chickens or does she save it?

This children have been working on writing different parts of the story collaboratively to create a book. Everyone wrote their own chapter and had a chance to illustrate it.

Here is a sneak peak at some of the writing they have done.

Our focusses have been:

  • Expanded noun phrases for description
  • Relative cluses to add extra detail
  • Using a variety of sentence openers
  • Commas after fronted adverbials.

We hope you enjoy!

Year 5 Topic Homework 14/09/18

As part of our science topic this term, we are looking at Earth and space. We would like you to research one of the planets in our solar system and create a fact file about that planet.

You can present your research in any way, for example a poster, leaflet, model, painting or presentation. Be as creative as you like!

You have three weeks to complete this project which is due on Friday 5th October. We will spend some time in school looking at each other’s creations and sharing what we have found out.

Lunch time club is available every day if you need some help with research. IPads and books about space will be available at this time.

We look forward to seeing what you create.

Miss Cseri & Miss Elliott.

Welcome back to year 5!

We have had a great start to the new school year in Year 5. In our first week we joined in with lots of team building activities as we got to know our new class mates and teachers better, including building towers out of straws and blue tac!

Our current topics for this half term are:

Maths: Place value

Science: Earth and space

English: Fiction writing – focussing on the video of the girl and the fox.

PSHE: What makes somebody a genius?

Please can you ensure children bring their homework diaries to school every day to record their homework and reading. If you have any messages you would like to share with teachers, feel free to use these books for communication.

PE days for year 5 are Wednesday and Thursday.

Willow are swimming for their Thursday PE session so please remember to be in school Thursday with goggles, towels and swimming costumes.

Thank you

Miss Cseri & Miss Elliott
