All the news and information from the EPFL football competitions
The Exeter Primary Football League (EPFL) encompasses a series of regular or annual football competitions organised and delivered by the PE staff at Exeter Children’s Federation (Montgomery & Wynstream). Please read on below to find out more information on each of the EPFL competitions.
Exeter Primary Football League
The main event is a central venue league competition, held at a local secondary school, and run by the ECF PE team. The league involves a variety of schools (currently 24 teams from 17 schools) from around Exeter and the surrounding areas, and is free to enter for all schools. The league involves regular football fixtures throughout the school year against other primary schools, and is open to girls and boys from Years 4,5&6.
The teams are randomly split into three groups of 8- Group A, B & C. Each team plays against the other 7 teams in their group twice during the normal league season. At the end of the league season, the top team from each group is crowned group winners and are given a trophy to keep and display in their school. In addition, the top 2 teams from each group, plus the highest scoring two 3rd place teams from across the groups qualifies for the EPFL Champions Cup competition (see below for more details).

EPFL Champions Cup
The EPFL Champions Cup is a knockout cup competition which takes place once per year after the conclusion of the normal league season. The Champions Cup is an invite only competition where teams must qualify for entry by finishing as the highest scoring top 3 teams in their group as part of the normal EPFL league season.
The 8 teams that qualify for the Champions Cup go into a random draw for the quarter final stage. The winner of each quarter final then qualifies for the semi finals, where the subsequent winners qualify for the grand final and the defeated teams play in a 3rd/4th place play off. All teams receive a certificate for taking part in the competition, and the overall winners receive the EPFL Champions Cup Trophy which they get to engrave and keep for 1 year until the next final.
