Year 3 homework

Year 3 – Homework

Spellings

Each child is now being given a bespoke set of spellings which are individualised to their spelling needs. These spellings will be handed out on a Friday and handed back in on the following Thursday. Once the children have completed their spelling homework they may want to practise learning them in different ways. Below are a few ways that they could do this.

Times Tables

Every Friday, the children are tested on the set of times tables that they have been practising. They receive a times table sheet to practise as part of their homework as well as having their specific times table focus set on the Times Table Rockstar app.

It is important that the children go into the garage section off the app, as this is where their focus times tables are set.

Year 3 – Homework – Deforestation

Handed out: Friday 14th December 2018

Due in: Thursday 10th January 2019

As part of our topic next term, you will be learning about deforestation in Brazil and the impact that it is having on the animals that live there. Your homework is to do a little bit of research about one of the animals listed below and complete the fact file sheet. You can design your own fact file if you would like to but you must make sure it has all of the same information as the example.

Choose one animal to research:

* Jaguar

* Orangutan

* Poison dart frog

Here is an example of what a finished fact file might look like.

Weekly Spellings

It is important to remember to stay in your seat and put your hand up if you have a question. In recent weeks it has become a regular habit for some children to leave their seats and follow the teacher around the room.

Year 3 – Homework

It’s really important that the children are encouraged to complete their homework by the set deadline. It has been noticeable that a handful of children haven’t completed any of the set homework since the start of the year. The homework is set to give all pupils the opportunity to practise the skills and methods that are being taught in class.

SPELLINGS

This week’s spelling words.

On Friday, it was a surprise to see Mr Chambers in a strange fancy dress outfit.

MATHS

The focus in maths over the last week has been multiplication. We have identified that multiplication is simply repeated addition.

For example – 4 x 3 = 12 is simply 4 + 4 + 4 = 12

To deepen our understanding, we have been looking at representing equal groups in different ways. According to the the latest guidance from the DFE, it is suggested that multiplication sentences should be thought of in the following way – 4 x  3 is 4, three times rather than 4 lots of 3.

https://thirdspacelearning.com/blog/year-4-multiplication-times-tables-check-new-assessment-framework-2020/

For example:

4 x 3 = 12 could be represented pictorially as shown below.

5 x 2 = 10 could be represented pictorially as shown below.

Can you represent the following calculations with the correct pictorial representation?

1 x 3  = 3                       3 x 1 = 3

2 x 6 = 12                     6 x 2 = 12

4 x 5 = 20                    5 x 4 = 20

TT Rockstars has been updated and the battle between Hazel and Rowan ends tomorrow!

Will Hazel win the battle of the bands again this week?
